What it is for.
Every material that enters an operation leaves it as product, by-product or waste. The goal is that nothing is simply disposed of: by-products are repurposed, organic matter returns to the soil, reusable materials are reclaimed.
The standard is Future-Fit Break-Even Goal BE07, "Operational waste is eliminated". In the words of the Benchmark: "A Future-Fit Business seeks to eliminate operational waste completely, and ensures that all by-products are repurposed. Organic waste may be composted and returned to the soil, and materials that can be reused must be reclaimed." The session shows what that requires, how progress is measured on the scale from 0 to 100 percent, and what your team has to do to find out where the organization stands.
It is not a complete benchmarking exercise. A real progress score needs data from every site, and more time than one session allows. Participants leave knowing exactly how to do it.
